Black-and-white reversal film has a long history in cinematography, especially in 16mm and 8mm filmmaking. Unlike conventional negative film, reversal processing produces a positive image directly on the film exposed in the camera, allowing the original film itself to become the finished image.
This workshop brings that material quality of analogue cinema into still photography. Meeting at the Rotlicht Festival exhibition, the group will walk through the show together, taking photographs before continuing to the darkrooms of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna to develop the films collectively.
The resulting images are unique black-and-white transparencies: high in contrast and resolution; luminous slides made to be seen through light. The workshop is led by Jakob Wächter and Daria Savytska.
Film and chemistry included. Please bring your own 35mm camera.
The workshop will take place with at least 2 binding registrations.
