What memories of our existence will remain in the postAnthropocene age? This avant-garde series dovetails one-hundred-year-old negatives with the materiality of rusted steel to create a meditation on the fragility of man. The people featured have been anonymised by time, all that remains of the memory of their lives are the original negatives and these Rust-Prints. The images are nothing but rust, created using my innovative Rust-Print process. A collaboration between the elemental forces and myself; Each print is unique, as the rain, sun and salt-winds embed their mark within the image as it develops in the open air over several days, using sea-water.
about the artist
My work was born out of my experiences of living on the storm-ravaged edge of a peninsula, where I draw upon the raw power of the wind and sea for inspiration, working in an open-air studio to remain energised by the elements.
