Originally conceived as a sarcastic take on the End Times biblical prophecy, this series of analog photographs depict sunlight beams dramatically emerging from obscure ocean waters. Visually, they are meant to literally evoke the moment when a ‘eschatological vacuum cleaner’ sucks up all the well-behaved believers right into Heaven. Unfortunately, I was taking a long siesta at the beach after a ridiculous amount of sangría and missed any chance of being saved. My bad! The sentiment of existential dread combined with a good dose of comedic relief in these images reminds us that a preserved sense of humour is one of the few things that will keep us going when it is time to rebuild society after the Apocalypse. All images were shot in 35mm film using analog manipulations ‘in- camera’.
