Part 1: Photowalk

In this photowalk you’ll learn about do’s and don’ts of analog photography and the basics of taking photographs

Bring your own 35mm or medium format film camera! In this photowalk you’ll have the opportunity to get to know the medium of film better. Jahan will briefly talk about the do’s and don’ts of analog photography and give you a basic introduction into taking photographs. Feel free to bring your own black and white films or colour films, otherwise film will be provided for you. The knowledge you gain in this photowalk will later be applied in the darkroom and further parts of this 4 part workshop. Feel free to join any part as you please. The location of the photowalk will definitely be in Vienna and dependent on the weather.

The price includes 1x B/W Film or 1x C-41 colour film.

Part 2: Basics of developing black and white film (35mm and 120)

In this introductory workshop you’ll learn the basics of developing your own 35mm or 120 black and white film, what chemicals are involved in processing and what to watch out for if you want to develop your own film at home. You can bring your own films to develop or the rolls you took at the previous photowalk from Part 1.

In this introductory workshop you’ll learn the basics of developing your own 35mm or 120 colour negative film, what chemicals are involved in processing and what to watch out for if you want to develop your own film at home. You can bring your own films to develop or the rolls you took at the previous photowalk from Part 1.

Part 4: Basics of working in a darkroom to produce a simple black and white silver gelatin print.

In this workshop you’ll learn the basics working in a darkroom to produce a black and white silver gelatin print from your own negatives.

In this introductory workshop you’ll learn the basics working in a darkroom to produce a black and white silver gelatin print from your own negatives. Learn all about what you need to make a simple print, what chemicals are involved and what to watch out for when setting up your own darkroom at home. Basic overview will be given about contrast control, split grading and dodging and burning.

Please bring your own negatives that we developed together in the previous part 2 or any 35mm or medium format black and white film that you have.
