Chronostasis

“Chronostasis” is a temporal illusion in which a visual perception seems to last longer.

The project unfolds on vintage slides of Pompeii, a city that serves as an archetype of human precariousness and the failure of control over nature. Ancient history merges with the crisis of the Anthropocene. Through cuts, voids, black marks, and overlays with contemporary negatives, I reshaped the landscape to create hybrid and metaphysical realities. The human imprint hovers like a dark influence superimposed on nature and history. The magenta hue of time and the heat of the Kodak Carousel projector consume the film in the very act of projecting it. Between intervention and dissolution, the ruins shake us with a tension that mirrors our own era.
