“Maar” explores the geothermally active regions of Northern Iceland. This almost fluid landscape is constantly in flux as the earth stirs beneath our feet. This ongoing project examines the natural construction and deconstruction of the landscape through volcanic activity. The stacked layers of cooled magma leave a landscape reminiscent of its younger self. However, the marks left on this vast and quiet landscape are not solely natural. Today, the sprawling pipes of the Krafla geothermal power station leave their own unique presence within the geologic record. In a country where the land is deeply cherished by its inhabitants, you can truly feel the connection to this ever-changing landscape.
