Descendants of Summer

Born and raised in Bermuda, I use documentary photography to examine how colonial histories continue to shape contemporary identities, landscapes, and collective memory. “Descendants of Summer” explores Bermuda as a hybrid reality – a place where paradise and violence, belonging and displacement, coexist. Referencing the island’s earliest colonial name, the Summer Isles, the project combines portraiture, landscape, archival materials, and oral histories to trace the enduring impact of slavery and empire across generations. Through collaborative storytelling, this work considers how historical and ecological inheritance shape our understanding of place, memory, and survival in the Anthropocene.
