Hotel Europa

Hotel Europa is a photo series exploring sites that were once part of Austria’s tourism infrastructure for temporary lodging or recreation. Having lost their original function, these hotels and resorts, now in a state of decline, serve as shelters for people fleeing the war in Ukraine and displaced people from around the world.

These places and their inhabitants exist in a strange state where the temporary becomes permanent. Architecture and human presence merge into an unstable environment. As people adapt to spaces they did not choose, the buildings themselves change, shaped by everyday life, blurring the boundary between shelter and home. The series captures this liminal reality and reflects on the less visible consequences of war and displacement.
