Seunggu Kim Hadong

Hadong Observatory

In search of a landscape where human and natural systems visibly coexist, I chose a mountaintop in Hadong overlooking Hadong Power Plant, the Yeosu–Gwangyang Industrial Complex, and the Hallyeosudo seascape. For three years, I traveled between Seoul and Hadong, photographing the landscape as it shifted with light and atmosphere. As light refracts, disperses, and reflects through atmospheric particles, it is briefly imprinted on the silver grains of film. Paired with the Air Quality Index recorded at each exposure, these images ask whether we can perceive the invisible materials that shape our surroundings. The work brings atmosphere—often treated as background—into view as a condition of our reality.
